Applications for T-STEM Academy available this week (only through 5th grade science teachers)

Attention Parents of current 5th Grade Students: Applications for the middle school T-STEM Academy are available this week only through 5th grade science teachers. Students should submit completed and signed applications no later than this Friday, February 28th. Students will be selected via a lottery system. Sheldon ISD Compass Schools parent information meetings set for Feb. 25-26

Sheldon ISD will be hosting parent information meetings regarding the district’s Compass Schools program next week. The first meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Cravens Early Childhood Academy beginning at 6 p.m.; and the second meeting will take place at Sheldon Early Childhood Academy on Wednesday, Feb. 26, also at 6 p.m.
Compass Schools allows parents to choose a specialty program (Performing and Visual Arts; Science, Technology, Engineering and Math; or High Tech) that best fits the interests and/or needs of their child.
The informational meetings are for parents whose children will be entering first grade during the 2020-2021 school year.

Sheldon ISD celebrates 'Black History Month'

February is Black History Month - and this year's national theme is "African Americans and the Vote."

Through voting-rights campaigns and legal suits from the turn of the twentieth century to the mid-1960s, African Americans made their voices heard as to the importance of the vote.

Indeed the fight for black voting rights continues in the courts today.

Sheldon ISD board members call May 2020 bond election

Sheldon ISD school board members who attended Tuesday’s workshop unanimously voted to call a May bond election in the amount of $438.8 million.
The majority of the bond funds would be allocated toward the construction of new campuses; expansions and renovations to existing campuses/district facilities; and security upgrades. Other portions of the bond would include a new multipurpose arena as well as a community/district natatorium.
“We have been experiencing tremendous student growth throughout the district over the past few years – really over the past decade,” Sheldon ISD Superintendent Dr. King Davis said. “Although most of our student growth was anticipated, there has been a recent influx of significant future developments within our district that most likely will impact our student enrollment numbers in the near future.”
